WE ARE THE SLEEPYHEADS
“Against these laws revolt is not only forbidden - it is even
impossible." Mikhail Bakunin

We are the Sleepyheads is a one hour, smash and grab journey
of play, encounter and wreckage that delves into the
fantastical world of a fictional labour camp:

A romantic revolutionist, meets a fortress of rules and
tyranny and comes head to head with a leader, and the
numbness of his prisoners. A battle ensues and there is much
ado about something, but, a disco, a stage fight and a
revolution later and the question remains, did anything
actually happen? A dance between rules and disorder,
We are the Sleepyheads snatches a glance at a world not too
far removed from our own. It explores ideas of anarchy and
freedom and questions whether there is really any true
possibility for revolution, change or development?

This show, with its performance style, rooted in certain
traditions and conventions of Comedia D’ell Arte is comic,
highly physical and often poetic. The dramatic text is a
blend of original script and extracts, twisted and
recontextualised from the writings of absurd theatre writers
such as Fernando Arrabal and Arthur Adamov.

We are the Sleepyheads, premiered at ARTfart, Reykjavik,
Iceland, 2009.
